BioPetals is a fork of the Petals library that enables distributed inference and fine-tuning of a biology-focused LLM (OpenBioLLM-8B) across a private network. It is interesting for its potential to enable collaborative, privacy-preserving use of a specialized LLM, but as a fork with minimal code changes it offers little innovation beyond the original project.
Target audience: AI/ML researchers, bioinformatics engineers
